For Insurers – OLHI – Free, impartial help with your life & health insurance complaints

For Insurers

Canadian law requires most life and health insurance companies to be members of an independent dispute resolution service. OLHI is Canada’s independent complaint resolution and information service for consumers of Canadian life and health insurance. OLHI members are called “member companies.”

OLHI reviews complaints where the consumer and member company could not reach a resolution through the member company’s internal complaints process. We avoid costly, lengthy courtroom proceedings by providing voluntary recommendations to resolve complaints. Although they are non-binding, to date all our final recommendations in favour of the consumer have been accepted by the insurer.

We are funded by our member companies that pay fees based on their size or volume of business. Our budget and associated fees are set each year by our Board of Directors based on the advice of staff.

Our Terms of Reference require us to be impartial. This means OLHI is not an advocate for either the consumer or the insurance company.
